Read: Summer Bookness

Oh, books....

Lovely, lovely books...

They make up 400/1000 of the things I love in this world. Seriously, I love books

This summer, my main plan is to get as many as I can and finally stock my bookshelf for the winter.

I was going to use Chicklish and Spinebreakers to get ideas. Anymore cool websites for this?

Fashion: Think Gatsby...

I love love love this look! When I saw the picture, the first thing that popped into my head was: "I so have to blog about this!"

The girl is Eku Edewor, a Nigerian-British media personality and she is insanely awesome.

She's my favourite outfitter here in Nigeria, because she ALWAYS knows what to wear. Seriously. She would be on Joan River's best dressed every week if she worked in Hollywood.

Another thing I find totally awesome about her is that she doesn't show up everywhere, so you always anticipate her showing up. She kills it every time.

The outfit was inspired by The Great Gatsby's Daisy (btw, I really need to watch that movie! Leo decked out in 20's style outfits? *swoon*) and I think it is just darling!

What do you think (of the outfit and movie)?

Music: He Puts The Awesome In Music

First off, yes I know there's no "awesome" in music. I ain't stupid...

Anyway, the HE that I'm talking about is the ever uber cool- Macklemore!

He is just... wow...

Thrift Shop even with all the unnecessary swearing, the song is absolutely INSPIRING! It tells you something about spending. We don't need lots of cash and large stores to be happy.

However, if anyone TOUCHES Bergdorf's or Free People, I will hint you down and hurt you. A lot.

Getting back on track though, I love his crazy outfits, like the one he wore to the MTV Movie Awards (below).

His style is just amaze... btw, whoever is his music video stylist is the awesomest person ever.

He is an absolute inspiration. Love you Mack! Check out his most popular songs on YouTube.

Can't Hold Us and Thrift Shop

Cred for the idea totally goes to my new awesome friend: Tanja who has THE best taste in music (she like Marina and the Diamonds! Aaah!)

We're going to be mentionong each other's blogs and stuff. She's uber-cool.

Inspiring Children and Lemonade Stands

I'm the kind of person to get  involved in all this stuff, even if it's just behind-the-scenes at the moment. Last year, I found this blog just randomly and I was bored and decided, what the hey? I was immediately inspired  and I fell in love with the little girl who began this thing sleflessly and knowing that she might die someday.

I'm talking about Alex's Lemonade Stand, founded by Alexandra Flynn Scott (pic below. Isn't she adorable?) in 2004. She was diagnosed with neuroblastoma (a type of cancer) shortly before her first birthday and her doctor said she might never walk again (of course, she did). She was cancer-free until the year 2000 when the family found out that the tumors had begun to grow again.

She decided to start a lemonade stand to raise money and (in her words): "...give the money to doctors to allow them to help other kids, like they helped me"

She started her stand with her older brother and they raised $2000 in that first year. Amazing or amazing?

I fell in love right there and decided to "adopt" her charity. I want to be a part of what she started and the only way I can do that  is through my writing. So I will.

Unfortunately, Alex passed away in 2008 at the age of 8 but she had raised more than $1 million with the help of her parents and so many wonderful people who were inspired by her story. She is more than an inspiration. It could not have been easy with all those treatments that make one sick and tired all the time, but she did it. We could all definitely take a page out of her book.

Alex Fact: She wanted to be a fashion designer. Go Lex!

If you want to be a part of the action, you can go here to learn more.

Also, if you want to know more about Alex (and yes, you want to) go here.

Join the fight and help them out in finding a cure and all.

Love,

Read: Coffee Table Chic

There are good magazines. Tolerable magazines. Amazing magazines, however, are much harder to come by.

Wikifashion describes THAT amazing mag as being:

"the kind of girl you'd have a crush on. Or be intimidated by. Her style is all old-fashioned cameras, 70's dresses, patterned stockings, heavy mascara. She'd live in an apartment where the wallpaper is peeling off, but it would be held together lovingly by a litter of poems and polaroids. Her CDs would be all over the floor, but she'd know the name of every one. "

Her name is Lula. Founded in 2006 by Leith Clark, Lula is published twice a year (so sad) and is punctuated  by fashion, music, art and memories. It is thick as a book and would look beautiful sitting on your coffee table.

Here's the link to an interview between Leith Clark and Tavi G.: Tavi Gevinson Interviews Leith Clark.

Here's the cover of the current issue:

Check it, love it, read it (and whatnot).

Fashion: Gevinson and The Great Fashion Evolution

Tavi Gevinson. If you are a respectable fashionista, you must know her. it is an absolute must. She is one of THE most amazing bloggers out there, and now she's the editor of her own magazine. And she's not even out of junior high.

She began her blog in 2008 at the age of (get this) ELEVEN! She was 11 and in like, 2 years, she was already rubbing shoulders with the greats. Now, I might not be really into her kooky, quirky fashion, but she is a true inspiration. She just put her mind to it and went for it and look where she is now- the editor of her own magazine, Rookiemag which has writers from EVERYWHERE. Isn't that something?

She has truly evolved, fashion-wise. Style-wise, she is still the Tavi I knew and loved as a 10 year old when I first found her blog. She is an inspiration for me, right up there with Anna Wintour, Leith Clark and Scott Schumann. She is simply awesome.

Below, are pictures of her following her style evolution. Enjoy.

P.S. Am I the only one totally in LOVE with the cute granny like look? It suits her teeny self quite well...
